And VilaFoia Gratitude

Every now and then, a guest puts into words something you feel—but rarely manage to express yourself.

This week, we received a review on Google Reviews   (see copy below) did exactly that. Not just a kind message, but a reflection of what a retreat experience can become when everything clicks: the place, the people, the energy.

And honestly… it made us pause for a moment.

___________

If you're looking for a retreat venue that feels less like a rental property and more like a home, Vila Foia is it.
We spent a week here in the mountains of Monchique and I'm still carrying it with me. There's something about this place that's hard to put into words. Maybe it's the quiet of the mountains, the ancient trees, the way the light moves through the space. Or maybe it's the people. Probably all of it.
The staff made the entire experience. By midweek, they didn't feel like staff anymore. They felt like family.

The owners, are just genuinely wonderful humans. I had to make a couple of last-minute changes to our schedule and there wasn't a single moment of stress or resistance. Just calm, "we've got you" energy. That kind of support is everything when you're running a retreat.

Then there's Filippo, who fed us twice a day with the freshest, most beautiful meals. Every dish felt thoughtful and nourishing. One afternoon he invited our whole group into the kitchen to make lasagna together. It turned into one of those unexpected, joyful moments that you don't plan for but end up treasuring.
The rest of the team, all stepped in wherever needed, always with warmth and a genuine smile. Sergio took such great care of us on our outings. You can feel that everyone here actually wants to be there.

One of my favorite parts of the week was how we gathered for meals. Long, family-style tables. Lunch and dinner together, every day. No rushing. Just conversation, laughter, and connection. Strangers become something else around a table like that.

For yoga groups, everything you need is there. High-quality mats, props, and blankets, all clean, well cared for, and ready to go. It made teaching feel effortless.

One thing to know: you are in the mountains. Stairs, paths, little hills. It's part of the charm, but worth knowing depending on your group. Personally, I loved every step.

Vila Foia didn't just meet expectations. It created something really special. If you're planning a retreat or just looking for a place to slow down and breathe a little deeper, this is it.

VilaFoia gratitude

Thank you. Not just for the words, but for the energy you brought into the space.

Thinking about hosting something yourself?

If you’re exploring locations for a retreat—or just looking for a place to slow down and breathe a little deeper—you probably already know:
You’re not just choosing a venue
You’re choosing the feeling your group will carry home.
And if that feeling matters… it’s worth choosing carefully
